SpaceNavigator and Spaceball Replacement

Is the SpaceNavigator discontinued?

Yes. 3Dconnexion stopped selling the SpaceNavigator in 2018, and its extended driver support ended in September 2024. Newer 3DxWare drivers are no longer guaranteed to keep it working with the latest software. The Spaceball line was discontinued long before that.

If your old 3D mouse is acting up, or you're setting up a new workstation, here's what replaces it.

What replaced the SpaceNavigator?

The SpaceMouse Compact is the direct successor. A similar size and the same feel, with an updated design and sensor, and full support in current drivers. If you liked your SpaceNavigator, this is the easy swap.

Want to cut the cable? The SpaceMouse Wireless Bluetooth gives you the same feel without the cord. It's also the closest match for the old SpaceNavigator for Notebooks.

Why upgrade now?

  • Driver support: current models are fully supported in the latest 3DxWare driver and new software releases.
  • Same muscle memory: the 6DoF cap works the way you're used to, so there's no relearning.
  • More options: wireless models, programmable keys and radial menus.

Common questions

Will my old SpaceNavigator still work?
It may, but 3Dconnexion's extended support ended in September 2024, so newer drivers and software updates aren't guaranteed to keep it running. Older drivers remain in 3Dconnexion's driver archive.

Is the SpaceMouse Compact the same as the SpaceNavigator?
It's the direct successor: a similar size with an updated design and sensor.

What about a Spaceball?
The Spaceball line is long discontinued. A SpaceMouse Pro is the natural step up, with 15 programmable keys.
